Well, I watched the appearances of both McCain and Obama before the AARP convention and, let me tell you, I really don’t know why McCain is running for President other than to feed his ego. Here’s the thing, McCain spoke in sound bites, said nothing about what he would do as President to resolve any of the issues, gave huge sighs after being asked questions after the first one like he was annoyed and bored with the whole process and didn’t seem to have a grasp on the reality of the average American’s current situation.
Obama, on the other hand, talked about specifics. Showed he had a firm grasp of the details of the problems facing the average American and gave suggested steps toward solving those problems.
So, the question before us is, do we vote for a guy who seems to be bored and dis-interested in the problems facing America because he has a female running mate? The notion that McCain and his keepers and his pitbull running mate believe that women will vote for the ticket simply because there’s a female on the ticket is extremely insulting. When Palin stated in her ABC interview that Obama wishes he had a woman on his ticket that was such a slap in the face of grown woman. Are women so ignorant and stupid that they’ll vote based on gender even if the woman’s views are repugnant to them? I think not.
Or, do we vote for the candidate who has shown a solid understanding of the problems facing America, responds in complete sentences and not sound bites, and offers steps towards resolving the problems?
I know who I’m voting for, and it’s not the ticket that speaks in sound bites, believes women vote based on gender and offers no solutions to the problems Americans face.

Everyone seems to be making a big issue about the Palin daughter’s pregancy and how awful it is that the girl is being made an issue in this campaign. Well, the mother made the daughter an issue by accepting the candidacy for vice president. Furthermore, the decision the daughter made to keep the baby and marry the father is neither unusual or extraordinary. Young girls choose to keep their unplanned babies each and eveyr day. They raise the children without the benefits that the Palin famiy has, i.e., the resources to hire domestic help or even family members who are there to help. So, to give an ovation for something that is, in essence, quite ordinary, is ludicrous.
Unfortunately, the poor girl will continue to be fair game if the mother continues to support an “abstinence only” approach to sex education. Her own daughter is a prime example of the failure of that approach. So the question then becomes, does the mother continue to support a policy that has failed in her own family? If she does, in my mind, that would prove that she is incapable of changing according to the circumstances, evidence and facts presented to her. Do we want another 4 years of an administration that is incapable of reacting to what is actually happening? That kind of inflexible, narrow minded thinking, hasn’t served us too wll these past eight years.

Here in Chicago, for almost a year now, there has been a news story involving an egocentric ex-police officer and the disappearance of his fourth wife. He now has a trial date for a weapons charge and his attorneys are crying over the prospect of being able to sit a jury of peers who know nothing about the defendant or his situation. Here’s the thing, this guy and his attorneys paraded him across the media, including nationally aired programs, to tell his side of the story. So, the question must be asked, shouldn’t the defendant and his attorneys bear a huge amount of the responsibility for tainting the jury pool through their huge appetite for publicity? After all, it wasn’t necessary to go on national and local television shows and call special news conferences to keep their names in the press. Perhaps that’s what their intention was all along, create a media circus so if the defendant did go to trial and the outcome wasn’t what he wanted, he could move for a mistrial based on the argument of a tainted jury pool which was created by the defendant’s and his attorneys’ actions.

I’ve been questioning whether customer service is still a valued business practice the past couple of weeks. What got me thinking about this was my experience with UPS. I worked a promo and needed to send paperwork to the client using their UPS account number. Well, I thought I could just go to the UPS Store to take care of the transaction. After all, if the store is named the UPS Store one could safely assume that you could conduct any and all business with UPS at the store, couldn’t you? Well, I found out that assumption was so completely and totally wrong. You know what they say . . . when you ass u me. Well, unless you have the form, you can’t send a package at the UPS Store using the recipients or third party account number! They just don’t have those forms. UPS doesn’t supply them to their contractors. Then, when you get forms from the drop box, well, you can get the forms for the expensive express service, but cheap ground service that is going to a nearby suburb, forget it. You have to call and request a pickup, wait for the driver to bring you a form (which could be any time over a 5 or 6 hour period), fill out the form (the driver won’t do it for you) and deal with a very surly fellow at that! When the driver copped an attitude, all I could think was, if UPS had full service at all of their signatories, you wouldn’t have had to come to my house!
So, to come full circle, are there any corporations out there that believe customer service is an integral part of their business? Obviously, UPS doesn’t and I can tell you, if I am in a position to choose a delivery service, UPS will not be making any money off of me.
Ah, it feels good to vent.
